1. Sleeping Early
Etiquette: To sleep early at night, unless there is a necessary religious or worldly task.
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَكْرَهُ النَّوْمَ قَبْلَ الْعِشَاءِ وَالْحَدِيثَ بَعْدَهَا
The Prophet (ﷺ) disliked sleeping before the Isha prayer and engaging in conversation after it.

2. Closing the Doors
Etiquette: To close the doors of the house well while reciting "Bismillah".
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: أَغْلِقُوا الْبَابَ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Close the door."

3. Covering Utensils
Etiquette: To cover all open vessels, containers, and water skins.
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: غَطُّوا الْإِنَاءَ وَأَوْكُوا السِّقَاءَ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Cover the vessels and tie the water skins."

4. Extinguishing Lights
Etiquette: To extinguish lamps and turn off unnecessary lights.
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: إِذَا نِمْتُمْ فَأَطْفِئُوا سُرُجَكُمْ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "When you go to sleep, put out your lamps."

5. Performing Wudu (Ablution)
Etiquette: To be in a state of Wudu before going to sleep.
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: إِذَا أَتَيْتَ مَضْجَعَكَ فَتَوَضَّأْ وُضُوءَكَ لِلصَّلَاةِ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Whenever you go to bed, perform Wudu as you do for prayer."

6. Washing Greasy Hands
Etiquette: To wash the hands before sleeping if they have any food residue or grease on them.
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: مَنْ نَامَ وَفِي يَدِهِ غَمَرٌ وَلَمْ يَغْسِلْهُ فَأَصَابَهُ شَيْءٌ فَلَا يَلُومَنَّ إِلَّا نَفْسَهُ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "If anyone goes to sleep with grease on his hand without washing it off and is affected by something, he should blame no one but himself."

7. Dusting the Bed
Etiquette: To dust the bed before sleeping.
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: إِذَا أَوَى أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَلْيَنْفِضْ فِرَاشَهُ بِدَاخِلِ إِزَارِهِ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "When one of you goes to his bed, he should dust his bed with the inner side of his lower garment."

8. Applying Kohl (Surma)
Etiquette: To apply Ithmid (antimony) kohl before sleeping.
قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَكْتَحِلُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ بِالْإِثْمِدِ
Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) narrated: "The Prophet (ﷺ) used to apply Ithmid kohl before going to sleep."

9. Preparing a Will
Etiquette: To prepare a will before sleeping.

10. Sleeping with Good Intention
Etiquette: To sleep with a good intention.
قَالَ سَلْمَانُ لِأَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ: إِنَّ لِنَفْسِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا
Salman said to Abu Darda: "Indeed, your soul has a right over you."

11. Repenting Before Sleep
Etiquette: To repent and seek forgiveness before going to sleep.
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يَأْوِي إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ "أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ" ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ ذُنُوبَهُ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ مِثْلَ زَبَدِ الْبَحْرِ، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ عَدَدَ وَرَقِ الشَّجَرِ، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ عَدَدَ رَمْلِ عَالِجٍ، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ عَدَدَ أَيَّامِ الدُّنْيَا
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Whoever says when he goes to his bed: 'I seek forgiveness from Allah, the One besides Whom there is no deity, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all, and I repent to Him' three times, Allah will forgive his sins even if they are like the foam of the sea, or like the number of leaves on the trees, or like the scattered grains of sand, or like the number of days of this world."

12. Purifying the Heart
Etiquette: To sleep after purifying one's heart from malice and jealousy.
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لِأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ: يَابُنَيَّ! إِنْ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تُصْبِحَ وَتُمْسِيَ وَلَيْسَ فِي قَلْبِكَ غِشٌّ لِأَحَدٍ فَافْعَلْ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said to Anas bin Malik (رضي الله عنه): "O my son! If you are able to spend your morning and evening without having any malice in your heart towards anyone, then do so."

13. Intention for Tahajjud
Etiquette: To sleep with the firm intention of waking up for the Tahajjud prayer.
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: مَنْ أَتَى فِرَاشَهُ وَهُوَ يَنْوِي أَنْ يَقُومَ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، فَغَلَبَتْهُ عَيْنُهُ حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ، كُتِبَ لَهُ مَانَوَى وَكَانَ نَوْمُهُ صَدَقَةً عَلَيْهِ مِنْ رَبِّهِ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Whoever goes to his bed intending to wake up and pray during the night, but sleep overcomes him until morning, what he intended will be written for him, and his sleep is a charity given to him by his Lord."

14. Reciting Masnoon Supplications
Etiquette: To recite the Masnoon supplications mentioned in the Ahadith before sleeping.
[۱]بِاسْمِكَ رَبِّي وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِي وَبِكَ أَرْفَعُهُ، فَإِنْ أَمْسَكْتَ نَفْسِي فَارْحَمْهَا، وَإِنْ أَرْسَلْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا بِمَا تَحْفَظُ بِهِ عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ
"In Your name, my Lord, I lay my side down, and by You I raise it. If You take my soul, have mercy on it, and if You send it back, protect it as You protect Your righteous slaves."

[۲]اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِي وَأَنْتَ تَوَفَّاهَا، لَكَ مَمَاتُهَا وَمَحْيَاهَا، إِنْ أَحْيَيْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا (بِمَا تَحْفَظُ بِهِ عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ)، وَإِنْ أَمَتَّهَا فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا (وَارْحَمْهَا)، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَافِيَةَ
"O Allah, You created my soul and You will take it. To You belongs its death and its life. If You keep it alive, protect it (as You protect Your righteous slaves), and if You cause it to die, forgive it (and have mercy on it). O Allah, I ask You for well-being."

[۳]بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
"In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live."

[۴]اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَرَبَّ الْأَرْضِ، وَرَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، رَبَّنَا وَرَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ، فَالِقَ الْحَبِّ وَالنَّوَى، وَمُنْزِلَ التَّوْرَاةِ وَالْإِنْجِيلِ وَالْفُرْقَانِ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ أَنْتَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهِ؛ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْأَوَّلُ فَلَيْسَ قَبْلَكَ شَيْءٌ، وَأَنْتَ الْآخِرُ فَلَيْسَ بَعْدَكَ شَيْءٌ، وَأَنْتَ الظَّاهِرُ فَلَيْسَ فَوْقَكَ شَيْءٌ، وَأَنْتَ الْبَاطِنُ فَلَيْسَ دُونَكَ شَيْءٌ، اقْضِ عَنَّا الدَّيْنَ وَأَغْنِنَا مِنَ الْفَقْرِ
"O Allah, Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth and Lord of the Mighty Throne, our Lord and the Lord of all things, Splitter of the seed and the date stone, Revealer of the Torah, the Injeel, and the Furqan, I seek refuge in You from the evil of every creeping thing that You shall seize by the forelock. O Allah, You are the First, and there is nothing before You; You are the Last, and there is nothing after You; You are the Manifest, and there is nothing above You; You are the Hidden, and there is nothing beyond You. Settle our debt and enrich us from poverty."

[٥] الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَكَفَانَا وَآوَانَا، فَكَمْ مِمَّنْ لَا كَافِيَ لَهُ وَلَا مُؤْوِيَ
"All praise is due to Allah, Who has fed us, given us to drink, sufficed us, and given us refuge. How many are there who have none to suffice them or give them refuge!"

[٦] اللَّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ، عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ، رَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَمَلِيكَهُ؛ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ (وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ)، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ الشَّيْطَانِ وَشِرْكِهِ، وَأَنْ أَقْتَرِفَ عَلَى نَفْسِي سُوءًا أَوْ أَجُرَّهُ إِلَى مُسْلِمٍ
"O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Lord and Sovereign of all things. I bear witness that there is no deity except You (alone, without partner). I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul, and from the evil of Satan and his encouragement to associate partners with You, and from bringing evil upon myself or bringing it upon another Muslim."

[٧] اللَّهُمَّ أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي إِلَيْكَ، وَفَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي إِلَيْكَ، وَوَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِي إِلَيْكَ، وَأَلْجَأْتُ ظَهْرِي إِلَيْكَ، رَغْبَةً وَرَهْبَةً إِلَيْكَ، لَا مَلْجَأَ وَلَا مَنْجَا مِنْكَ إِلَّا إِلَيْكَ، آمَنْتُ بِكِتَابِكَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلْتَ، وَبِنَبِيِّكَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتَ
"O Allah, I submit myself to You, entrust my affairs to You, turn my face towards You, and rely upon You, out of hope and fear of You. There is no refuge or escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You have revealed, and in Your Prophet whom You have sent."

[٨] اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ
"O Allah, save me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your slaves."

[٩] تسبيحات فاطمہ (٣٣ مرتبہ سبحان اللہ، ٣٣ مرتبہ الحمد للہ، ٣٤ مرتبہ اللہ اکبر)
Tasbihat Fatima (Subhan Allah 33 times, Alhamdu lillah 33 times, Allahu Akbar 34 times).

[١٠] أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ (تين مرتبہ)
"I seek forgiveness from Allah, the One besides Whom there is no deity, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all, and I repent to Him" (three times).

[١١] لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ
"There is no deity but Allah alone, having no partner. His is the sovereignty and to Him is all praise, and He is over all things competent. There is no power and no strength except with Allah. Glory be to Allah and with His praise. There is no deity but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest."

[١٢] اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَاخْسَأْ شَيْطَانِي، وَفُكَّ رِهَانِي، وَثَقِّلْ مِيزَانِي، وَاجْعَلْنِي فِي النَّدِيِّ الْأَعْلَى
"O Allah, forgive me, drive away my devil, free my pledge, make my scales heavy (with good deeds), and place me in the highest assembly."

15. Reciting Ayat al-Kursi
Etiquette: To recite Ayat al-Kursi before sleeping.
لَمَّا أَتَى الشَّيْطَانُ إِلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، وَقَالَ لَهُ: إِذَا أَوَيْتَ إِلَى فِرَاشِكَ فَاقْرَأْ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِيِّ: ﴿اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ﴾ حَتَّى تَخْتِمَ الْآيَةَ، فَإِنَّكَ لَنْ يَزَالَ عَلَيْكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ حَافِظٌ، وَلَا يَقْرَبُكَ شَيْطَانٌ حَتَّى تُصْبِحَ؛ وَلَمَّا أَخْبَرَ أَبُوهُرَيْرَةُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بِذَلِكَ، قَالَ لَهُ: أَمَا إِنَّهُ قَدْ صَدَقَكَ وَهُوَ كَذُوبٌ
When the devil came to Abu Huraira and said to him: "When you go to your bed, recite Ayat al-Kursi: 'Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence' until you finish the verse. For indeed, there will never cease to be a protector from Allah over you, and no devil will approach you until morning." And when Abu Huraira informed the Prophet (ﷺ) of that, he said to him: "He spoke the truth to you, even though he is a liar."

16. Last Two Verses of Surah al-Baqarah
Etiquette: To recite the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah before sleeping.
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: الْآيَتَانِ مِنْ آخِرِ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ مَنْ قَرَأَهُمَا فِي لَيْلَةٍ كَفَتَاهُ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The two verses at the end of Surah al-Baqarah, whoever recites them at night, they will be sufficient for him."

17. Surah al-Kafirun
Etiquette: To recite Surah al-Kafirun before sleeping.
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: مَنْ قَرَأَ قُلْ يَأَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ قَرَأَ رُبُعَ الْقُرْآنِ، وَتَبَاعَدَتْ مِنْهُ الشَّيَاطِينُ، وَبَرِئَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ، وَيُعَافَى مِنْ فَزَعِ النَّوْمِ، وَقَالَ ﷺ: مُرُوا صِبْيَانَكُمْ يَقْرَءُونَهَا عِنْدَ النَّوْمِ فَلَا يَعْرِضُ لَهُمْ شَيْءٌ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Whoever recites 'Say: O you disbelievers' has recited one-fourth of the Quran, devils distance themselves from him, he is freed from polytheism, and he is protected from night terrors." And he (ﷺ) said: "Command your children to recite it before sleep, and nothing will harm them."

18. Surah Ikhlas and Mu'awwidhatayn
Etiquette: To recite Surah al-Ikhlas and the Mu'awwidhatayn (Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nas), blow into both palms, and wipe them over the entire body.
قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ نَفَثَ فِي كَفَّيْهِ بِقُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَبِالْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ جَمِيعًا، ثُمَّ يَمْسَحُ بِهِمَا وَجْهَهُ وَمَا بَلَغَتْ يَدَاهُ مِنْ جَسَدِهِ
Aisha (رضي الله عنها) narrated: "When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went to his bed, he would blow into his palms after reciting 'Say: He is Allah, [who is] One' and the two chapters of seeking refuge (Mu'awwidhatayn) together. Then he would wipe his face and whatever his hands could reach of his body with them."

19. Reciting Surah As-Sajdah, Al-Mulk, Al-Isra, and Az-Zumar
Etiquette: To recite Surah As-Sajdah, Surah Al-Mulk, Surah Bani Isra'il (Al-Isra), and Surah Az-Zumar before sleeping.
قَالَ جَابِرٌ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَا يَنَامُ حَتَّى يَقْرَأَ تَنْزِيلَ السَّجْدَةِ وَتَبَارَكَ / قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَا يَنَامُ حَتَّى يَقْرَأَ الزُّمَرَ وَبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ
Jabir (رضي الله عنه) narrated: "The Prophet (ﷺ) would not sleep until he had recited Tanzil As-Sajdah and Tabarak." And Aisha (رضي الله عنها) narrated: "The Prophet (ﷺ) would not sleep until he had recited Az-Zumar and Bani Isra'il."

20. Reciting the Musabbihat
Etiquette: To recite the Musabbihat (Surahs beginning with the glorification of Allah: Al-Hadid, Al-Hashr, At-Taghabun, Al-Jumu'ah, and Al-A'la) before sleeping.
قَالَ عِرْبَاضُ بْنُ سَارِيَةَ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ الْمُسَبِّحَاتِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرْقُدَ
'Irbad bin Sariyah (رضي الله عنه) narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to recite the Musabbihat before going to sleep."

21. Sleeping on the Right Side
Etiquette: To sleep lying on the right side.
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: ثُمَّ اضْطَجِعْ عَلَى شِقِّكَ الْأَيْمَنِ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Then lie down on your right side."

22. Placing the Right Hand Under the Cheek
Etiquette: To sleep with the right hand placed under the face (cheek) and recite the designated supplication three times.
قَالَتْ حَفْصَةُ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْقُدَ وَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى تَحْتَ خَدِّهِ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: "اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ" ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ
Hafsah (رضي الله عنها) narrated: "When the Prophet (ﷺ) wanted to sleep, he would place his right hand under his cheek and then say: 'O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your slaves' three times."

23. Remembering Allah Until Sleep
Etiquette: To continue remembering Allah until sleep overcomes you.
قَالَ اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى: ﴿الَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَى جُنُوبِهِمْ﴾
Allah (Glorified and Exalted) said: "Those who remember Allah while standing, sitting, and lying on their sides."

24. Supplication for Insomnia
Etiquette: To recite the prescribed supplication when unable to sleep.
قَالَ بُرَيْدَةُ: شَكَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! مَا أَنَامُ اللَّيْلَ مِنَ الْأَرَقِ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: إِذَا أَوَيْتَ إِلَى فِرَاشِكَ فَقُلْ: اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَمَا أَظَلَّتْ، وَرَبَّ الْأَرَضِينَ وَمَا أَقَلَّتْ، وَرَبَّ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَمَا أَضَلَّتْ، كُنْ لِي جَارًا مِنْ شَرِّ خَلْقِكَ كُلِّهِمْ جَمِيعًا أَنْ يَفْرُطَ عَلَيَّ أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ أَوْ أَنْ يَبْغِيَ، عَزَّ جَارُكَ، وَجَلَّ ثَنَاؤُكَ، وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ، وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
Buraidah narrated: Khalid bin Al-Walid Al-Makhzumi complained to the Prophet (ﷺ) saying: "O Messenger of Allah! I cannot sleep at night due to insomnia." The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "When you go to your bed, say: 'O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and whatever they cover, Lord of the earths and whatever they carry, Lord of the devils and whoever they mislead, be my protector from the evil of all Your creations, lest any of them transgress against me or oppress me. Mighty is Your protection, and glorious is Your praise. There is no deity other than You, and there is no deity except You.'"

25. Performing Wudu in a State of Janabah
Etiquette: If one intends to sleep in a state of Janabah (major impurity), to wash the private parts and perform Wudu.
قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ غَسَلَ فَرْجَهُ وَتَوَضَّأَ لِلصَّلَاةِ
Aisha (رضي الله عنها) narrated: "When the Prophet (ﷺ) wanted to sleep while he was in a state of Janabah (major impurity), he would wash his private parts and perform Wudu as for prayer."

27. Supplication When Waking Up Startled
Etiquette: To recite a specific supplication if one wakes up startled or restless during the night.
قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا تَضَوَّرَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ قَالَ: "لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْوَاحِدُ الْقَهَّارُ، رَبُّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفَّارُ"
Aisha (رضي الله عنها) narrated: "When the Prophet (ﷺ) would wake up restless during the night, he would say: 'There is no deity but Allah, the One, the Subduer, Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver.'"

28. Using the Miswak Upon Waking
Etiquette: To use the miswak upon waking up during the night.
قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَا يَتَعَارُّ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ سَاعَةً إِلَّا أَجْرَى السِّوَاكَ عَلَى فِيهِ
Ibn Umar (رضي الله عنه) narrated: "The Prophet (ﷺ) would not wake up at any hour of the night except that he would use the miswak on his teeth."

29. Not Sleeping on the Stomach
Etiquette: To avoid sleeping face down on one's stomach.
لِأَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لِمَنْ رَآهُ نَائِمًا عَلَى بَطْنِهِ: إِنَّ هَذِهِ ضِجْعَةٌ لَا يُحِبُّهَا اللَّهُ تَعَالَى
The Prophet (ﷺ) said to someone he saw sleeping on his stomach: "Indeed, this is a posture of lying down that Allah the Exalted does not like."

30. Not Crossing Legs While Lying on the Back
Etiquette: To avoid placing one leg over the other while lying flat on the back.
قَالَ جَابِرٌ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَهَى أَنْ يَرْفَعَ الرَّجُلُ إِحْدَى رِجْلَيْهِ عَلَى الْأُخْرَى وَهُوَ مُسْتَلْقٍ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ
Jabir (رضي الله عنه) narrated: "The Prophet (ﷺ) forbade that a man should raise one of his legs over the other while lying flat on his back."

31. Not Sharing a Single Cover
Etiquette: For two men or two women to avoid sleeping under a single cover or in a single bed.
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: وَلَا يُفْضِي الرَّجُلُ إِلَى الرَّجُلِ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ، وَلَا تُفْضِي الْمَرْأَةُ إِلَى الْمَرْأَةِ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "A man should not lie with another man under one cover, and a woman should not lie with another woman under one cover."

32. Not Sleeping on an Unfenced Roof
Etiquette: To avoid sleeping on a roof that does not have a parapet or boundary wall.
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: مَنْ بَاتَ عَلَى سَطْحِ بَيْتٍ لَيْسَ لَهُ حِجَارٌ فَقَدْ بَرِئَتْ مِنْهُ الذِّمَّةُ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Whoever spends the night on the roof of a house that has no stone (boundary wall), then the covenant of protection is lifted from him."

33 & 34. Not Sleeping on a Public Path or Amidst a Gathering
Etiquette: To avoid sleeping on a public road or in the middle of a seated gathering.
قَالَ جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ: نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَرْقُدَ الرَّجُلُ بَيْنَ الْقَوْمِ، وَأَنْ يَنَامَ عَلَى قَارِعَةِ الطَّرِيقِ
Jabir bin 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade a man to sleep among people (in a gathering), and to sleep on the middle of the road."

35. Qailulah (Midday Nap)
Etiquette: To take a midday nap (Qailulah) after the afternoon meal.
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: قِيلُوا، فَإِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ لَا تَقِيلُ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Take a midday nap (Qailulah), for indeed, the devils do not take a midday nap."
